Arab tyrants and Muslims worldwide remain indifferent
By Latheef Farook
While Israeli settlers desecrate Masjid Al Aqsa, Islam’s third holiest mosque, shameful indifference of Arab dictators only shows they have abandoned Islam, Masjid Aqsa, Jerusalem and Palestine to serve their US-Israeli masters for political survival.
On Friday 14 July 2017, Israel closed Masjid Al-Aqsa for two days after a shooting attack outside an entrance to the holy site in occupied East Jerusalem.
It was the first time that Friday prayers at al-Aqsa was cancelled in decades. The Jerusalem mufti, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein, was briefly detained and released on bail on Friday after he attempted to gain access to the site and led open-air prayers close to the compound.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of a large compound known as Haram al-Sharif, which includes – aside from Al-Aqsa – the famed Dome of the Rock and other Palestinian Muslim sites, revered by Muslims everywhere. Al-Aqsa is believed to be the second mosque ever to be built, the first being Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The Holy Quran mentions it as the place from which Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ascended to heaven, journeying from Mecca to Jerusalem. For Palestinians, Muslims and Christians alike, the Mosque took on a new meaning following the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian city of al-Quds (East Jerusalem) in 1967.
On Sunday 15 July Israeli settlers stormed Masjid al Aqsa.They entered through the Mughrabi Gate, under the protection of armed Israeli police whilst Palestinians were refused entry unless they undergo intrusive searches. Numerous other gates to the mosque also remained closed.
Some of Al-Aqsa’s gates were reopened on Tuesday after installing metal detectors at each entrance. However, Muslims worshippers refused to pass though these metal detectors.
Specialist on Jerusalem affairs Jamal Amro explained that sensors are intended to check Palestinians whenever they enter Al-Aqsa Mosque to impose full Israeli control over Al Aqsa compound. Warning that the situation is “very dangerous”, he pointed out that while strict measures are imposed on Muslims entering the sanctuary, Jewish settlers, thugs and hooligans
imported from all over to grab Palestinian lands, are allowed free access under the protection of the Israeli army and police.
A Palestinian struggle against Zionist Jewish thugs who cal themselves as security force while 1.5 billion Muslims worldwie remains indifferent
Commenting on the latest Israeli provocations Palestinian columnist Ramzy Baroud had this to state;
This is the first time that an attack of this nature has been recorded inside the Al-Aqsa compound. Since 1967, only Israelis have used arms in violent clashes with Palestinians. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in or around this holy shrine throughout the years. Last June in Jerusalem Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu declared that the al-Aqsa Mosque compound would “forever remain under Israeli sovereignty.”
Empowered by the Trump administration, Netanyahu feels that his dream of subduing East Jerusalem is being realized. The price of Netanyahu’s dream, however, is likely to be costly. On the day of the attack, several Palestinians were killed in various parts of the West Bank and a 3-year-old child from Gaza died while awaiting a permit to cross from the besieged region to the West Bank for treatment. None of this registered in international media.
Describing how Trump and Netanyahu pushed Palestinians to a corner he said “more violence is likely to follow. Palestinians, who are dying without much media coverage, are desperate and angry as their holy city is crumbling under the heavy boots of soldiers, amid international silence and unconditional US support for the Israeli government.
Israeli settlers desecrating al Aqsa Mosque
Commenting on the latest round of Israeli violence at Al-Aqsa four leading Palestinian figures had this to state;
Salman Abu Sitta: founder and president of Palestine Land Society said; the escalating Israeli attempts to take over the Aqsa Mosque and the rest of the Noble Sanctuary (al-Haram al-Sharif) in Jerusalem is a sign of Israeli boldness to complete the occupation of all Palestine. It is also a sign of Israeli realisation that neither Palestinians nor Arabs have a determined leadership to defend Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim rights.
“This is a time of Israeli fanatic extremism at its height and the Arab defense at its lowest ebb” he added.
After the Israeli destruction of the 800-year-old Moroccan Quarter in June 1967, Jews wanted to take the Noble Sanctuary. The burning of Saladin's minbar in August 1969, the slaughter of worshippers on many occasions, and now, the brazen attempts to attack Al-Aqsa Mosque, highlight Israel's unchecked behavior.
This is a direct consequence of Israel revealing its true face of fanaticism, racism, and extended occupation. Israeli government’s basic structure is, as always, a settlers' regime that now wants to ensure its full control of what is left of Palestine and to make Jerusalem the unchallenged political and religious capital of Greater Israel.
This development is a direct result of the absence of a trustworthy Palestinian leadership, of its acquiescence in the Oslo Accords to serve the Israeli occupation, of the failure of the Arab governments to defend Arab rights - with some siding with Israel - and of the inability of 1.5 billion Muslims to defend the first Qibla and the third holy mosque after Mecca.But resistance will undoubtedly rise, possibly from unexpected quarters.
Ali Abunimah, co-founder of The Electronic Intifada and author of The Battle for Justice in Palestine stated that the present struggle over Al-Aqsa is the consequence of Israel's use of religious dogma as a cover for its violent settler-colonialism and ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied West Bank since 1967.
If they make a serious attempt to destroy Al-Aqsa - something that is growing more likely by the day - there is no underestimating the catastrophic geopolitical consequences.
Response to Israeli atrocities by ruthless tyrants in the region remains indifference to please their US-Israeli masters. However, oppressed and brutalized people throughout the region, were boiling with anger. No one knows how and when anger this will explode.
Here in Sri Lanka Muslim community has been in the forefront in defending Palestinian rights and Islamic holy places especially in the 1960s and 70s when there were spontaneous peaceful demonstrations and meetings condemning Israeli desecration of Al Aqsa.
However, over the years today the community remans indifferent.
Late Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini who ushered in Islamic revolution and changed the political map of the region declared last Friday of the Holy Month of Ramadhan as Al Quds Day was observed worldwide to date with peaceful demonstrations, public meetings, lectures and seminars to create awareness.
However, Sri Lankan Muslims have virtually forgotten the great significance of this event. Jumma sermons were used not to highlight the need to educate people of the need liberate Masjid Al Aqsa from Zionist Jewish yoke. Instead Jumma sermons on last Fridays of Ramadhan were confined to topics such as life in hell, tormenting in grave and the like. This is the disgusting and sickening state of affairs of once energetic Sri Lanka’s Muslim community demonstrating its today’s political and religious bankruptcy. Ends.
